It took just five innings for the Carbon Lady Dinos to defeat the South Summit Wildcats, advancing to the second round of the 3A State Championship Tournament with a 12-2 win Saturday morning in Manti.

Entering the state tournament as the No. 3 seed from Region 14, the Lady Dinos had little problems with South Summit, the No. 4 seed from Region 13. Plating nine runs in the first two innings of play, Carbon added one more in the fourth and two more in the fifth to secure the win.

Offensively Carbon logged ten RBIs on 11 hits, including a two-run blast from Kennedy Nelson. Clarissa Noyes and Dekota Kraushaar both notched three RBIs, while Graycie Hansen and Kaytlyn Cripps each brought in one run.

Brooke Moosman earned the win on the mound allowing just two runs in 3.1 innings of work. Kraushaar chipped in to keep South Summit at a distance with over one inning of shutout ball.

Saturday’s win prevented Carbon from slipping into the one-loss bracket and moves the team to the second round on Thursday afternoon against Manti, the No. 1 seed from Region 15.

Thursday’s meeting will be the second this season between the two teams. Manti won the first earlier this season by a final score of 11-5. Start time for the game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Spanish Fork.

A win for Carbon would move them into the quarterfinals against either Grantsville or Juab. A loss would put the Lady Dinos in an elimination contest against Richfield at 4:00 p.m..
