Emery High football will begin off-season workouts on June 3 and the big push towards the 2019 season begins. Traveling to a 7-on-7 camp in Manti and their summer camp in the middle of July, the Spartans will open the season on August 16.

Coach Jon Faimalo entering his fourth season as the head coach is kind of at a disadvantage as he doesn’t work at the school as a teacher so he must rely on help from other teachers to keep tabs on the kids. “I’ve got Coach Justice that teaches over there and Coach Mortensen, those guys are helpful in keeping in touch with the kids.” Faimalo went on to add, “ I try to send out texts to the kids to see what’s going on, but not being there everyday is tough.”

Emery will be looking for a quarterback and a running back this season as Kyson Stilson and Rance Jensen have both graduated. The returning juniors from last season a little thin but with about 20-22 sophomores returning from last season and about the same number of returning freshman Coach Faimolo is encouraged by the middle school numbers as well,” I went and visited each school, on the south end, San Rafael there wasn’t as many kids, on the north end there was about 20 kids, so I’m hoping for about 20-30 kids.”

The Spartans will start weight training on June 3 three days a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7-9 a.m.. Thursdays will be night practice starting at 8 p.m.. There will be a moratorium the first week of July. They will then participate in a 7-on-7 camp in Manti and summer camp at Millard on July 15. The first week of practice will be July 29.

Last season the Spartans went 1-9 overall and 1-4 in region play. This year the regions have been re-aligned as Emery will face Carbon, Grand, Richfield, San Juan and South Sevier in a new Region 12.

Most are familiar faces to the Spartans and should make for a fun and interesting season.
