Emery High School seniors Brock Winter and Gage Mangum earned recognition for their excellence on the soccer field with a 3A All-State First Team selection, while fellow senior Spencer Hadfield received an honorable mention.

“Brock, Gage and Spencer stepped up consistently all season with a really solid supporting cast,” said head coach Troy Winter in a recent interview on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports. “Those seniors were our mainstays, with a couple of foreign exchange students that really helped out.”

The All-State First Team selection is the second for Gage Mangum in as many seasons. Leading a potent Emery squad that finished top 10 in the classification, Mangum provided excellent ball control and the knack for steady defense.

Forward Brock Winter received the First Team nod after leading the team in scoring with 13 goals this season. A position change earlier in the year for Winter proved to be beneficial. Notching one hat trick on the season, Winter scored multiple goals in one game on three separate occasions.

Senior defender Spencer Hadfield was given an honorable mention for his work throughout the season. Contributing on both sides of the ball, Hadfield found the back of the net four times, two of which came against Richfield on April 2.

As a team Emery finished 5-4-1 in Region 15 play and 7-7-1 overall. The season came to a close with a 2-1 setback to Maeser Prep in the opening round of the 3A State Tournament.
