The Emery Lady Spartans protected home field with a dominating 5-0 win over the South Sevier Rams Tuesday afternoon, completing the season series sweep in the process.

For the fourth consecutive outing junior Alexis Winter scored at least two goals as Emery found success early and often. The win improves the Lady Spartans to 6-1, keeping them safely in second place and one game out of first.

In a well rounded offensive effort Aspen Hansen, Shelbee Murdoch and Teah Lowery all found the back of the net once. Defensively Emery was led by goalkeeper Kiri Cook, who recorded her third shutout of the season.

Still in the hunt for the Region 12 championship, the Lady Spartans remain one game back of Carbon for the top spot in the division. With only three games remaining on the regular season slate the final three games will decide the division crown.

The Lady Spartans will return to the field on Thursday as the take the lengthy road trip to Blanding for a game against San Juan. Next week they’ll close out the season with back-to-back games against Richfield and Carbon.

Following Tuesday’s contest Emery is currently 10th in the latest RPI rankings.
