The Carbon Lady Dinos are one step closer to clinching at least a share of the Region 12 championship after earning a 1-0 victory over the Richfield Wildcats Thursday afternoon in Price.

Kinley Cowdell found the back of the net in the first half to give Carbon a 1-0 lead entering the break. The two teams played to scoreless tie in the second half, resulting in a season-series sweep for the Lady Dinos.

Goalkeeper Emma Flemett helped notch another shutout for the Carbon defense. As a team Carbon has allowed just one goal over the last five games, while the last three have ended in shutouts.

Thursday’s win moves the Lady Dinos to 8-0 in Region 12 play and 12-1 overall. Carbon has lost since dropping the season opener to Maeser Prep back on Aug. 7.

Now holding the best record in the 3A classification the Lady Dinos have soared to No. 4 in the latest RPI rankings.

Entering the final week of division play, Carbon wrap up a share of the Region 12 title with a win Tuesday over the Grand Red Devils. A win coupled with an Emery loss to Richfield would give Carbon the outright region crown.

Tuesday’s game against Grand is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. And will be the final home game of the regular season.
