Although we have yet to celebrate Halloween in the Castle Country area United Way of Eastern Utah has a touch of the Christmas spirit. They will begin taking Angel Tree applications for this year on October 3 so they may create their annual database for children in the area.

“So applications will be available at the office on October 3. You can go on our website right now at https://www.uweu.org/ and you can print out an application but you cannot bring it in to the office until October 3, that’s when the database will all be set up and we’ll be ready to start taking applications,” said Director Cheryl Thayn. The deadline for applications is 4:00 pm on November 14. No late applications will be accepted.

Items needing to be attached to the application include copies of any and all household income received by any household member 18 and older (related and non-related). This means that paystubs must be current and include year-to-date earnings for that individual. A copy of your myCase (jobs.utah.gov/mycase) reporting the last 24 months and legible copies of picture ID for head of household.

“You do have to bring the application back into the office with us and this is just so we can check over the application and make sure that everything is correct,” stated Thayn.

Carbon and Emery County applicants can return their applications to the United Way of Eastern Utah office at their new location of 81 North 200 East in Price. Applicants in Green River may return their applications to The Pyramid at 125 South Long Street.

The Angel Tree program benefits children in the both Carbon and Emery counties. “So Angel Tree is just a program to help families who otherwise wouldn’t get to have Christmas to have Christmas and you need to remember too that it’s not just for children we also do some adult applications and so those will also be available,” stated Thayn. “It really is just a wonderful, another wonderful way for our community to come together and support the folks who need us.” Last year the program was able to assist 433 children and 38 adults with Christmas with help from community members.
