Despite a competitive first half the Carbon Dinos were unable to keep pace with the Grand Red Devils in a 47-6 loss Friday night at home.

Trailing 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Dinos managed to answer a Grand score as senior Jaylon Dennis crossed the goal line for the team’s lone score of the evening. Faced with a 20-6 half time deficit, the second half was dominated by the Red Devils.

Grand quarterback Bryant Troutt delivered a career night, running the football 13 times for 232 yards and five touchdowns. Adding some sort of balance to the attack, he also completed three-of-five passes for 59 yards.

Unable to crack the Grand defensive code, the Dinos were shutout over the final two quarters of the contest.

With only two weeks remaining in the regular season the Dinos are currently ranked No. 18 in the latest Utah High School Activities Association RPI rankings. Needing to climb into the top 16 to qualify for the playoffs, Carbon will face two opponents ranked above them in the coming weeks.

First will be this Friday’s final home tilt, ‘Senior Night’ against the mighty San Juan Broncos. Ranked No. 6 in the RPI, San Juan is unbeaten in Region 12 play, fresh off of a 42-17 win over Richfield.

The Dinos will complete the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 16 in Monroe against the South Sevier Rams.
