After the initial FaceBook post about this case, the department received an anonymous tip on Friday, December 6, 2019, identifying the suspect in this case, along with other helpful investigative information.  The related cases had been assigned to Sgt. Kelly Maynes who was able to independently verify some of this information, and obtained corroborating forensic evidence.

The suspect was identified as Patrick Christian Bugg (AKA Christian Patrick Bugg) DOB 3-16-1993 (he is 26 years old), from Cedar City, but currently residing in Wellington, Utah.

Sgt. Maynes continued working leads and on Monday, December 9, 2019, with the assistance of a reserve Wellington PD officer and a Carbon Metro Drug Task Force agent, located Mr. Bugg at a Wellington apartment complex.  Bugg was taken into custody, was allegedly wearing some of the same clothing when he passed forged money, and allegedly cooperated with Sgt. Maynes during an interview.  Additional corroborating forensic evidence was seized.

Mr. Bugg was booked into the Carbon County Jail on four counts of forgery/passing counterfeit bills, 3rd degree felonies.  Reports will be submitted to the Carbon County Attorney’s Office for screening and determination of appropriate formal charges.

Mr. Bugg was allegedly currently out on bail regarding a stolen vehicle case out of Utah County.

According to court records, Bugg has 10 previous arrests with 7 convictions.

The investigation is still active while tying up loose ends to the case.
