Despite a competitive first quarter, the Carbon Dinos were unable to keep pace with the Richfield Wildcats in a 65-39 loss Wednesday night on the road.

Going toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the classification, Carbon trailed 19-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats won the next three individual quarters, but used a 15-4 run in the second to pull away for good.

Senior Kaleb Nelson led Carbon in the setback with a team best 13 points to go along with five rebounds and one steal. Keenan Hatch poured in eight points and Brady Gagon finished with six.

With Wednesday’s loss now in the books the Dinos sit 2-7 in Region 12 play entering the final regular season contest of the season on Friday. Locked in the No. 5 spot in the division, Carbon currently holds an overall record of 7-13.

Josh Thalman recorded a game-high 17 points to lead Richfield to its third consecutive win. Morgan Albrecht and Will Robinson both scored 13, while Emmitt Hink chipped in with 10.
