The Carbon Dinos completed the first week of the new baseball season with a 2-1 record after splitting a weekend home-and-road back-to-back with two out of region opponents.

Two days after opening the season with a 4-2 win over Payson, the Dinos suffered their first loss in a 5-2 decision to the Summit Academy Bears Friday afternoon at Carbon High School.

Holding a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth frame, Carbon was outscored 4-0 in the final four innings. Despite a solid effort defensively from three pitchers, the Dinos were held to just four hits throughout.

Rylan Hart was charged with the loss on the mound, allowing just two hits and one earned run in two innings of work. While giving up two hits, Hart fanned three batters. Tyler Wright worked three innings, striking out five, while Wyatt Falk struck out four and walked three.

Sophomore Jordan Fossat finished 3-3 at the plate, registering two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Carbon offense. Hart ended 1-4 with a double, while Kaleb Nelson singled in a 1-3 performance.

Despite Friday’s loss the Dinos jumped back into the win column with a dominating 11-2 victory over West Saturday morning in Salt Lake City.

Propelled by a seven-run second inning, the Dinos scored four more runs in the fifth and sixth frames to comfortably earn the win. Playing error free baseball in the field, the Dinos notched 10 hits at the plate, six more than in Friday’s loss.

Cooper Schade earned the win on the mound after pitching two innings of no-hit and scoreless ball. Cayden Steele worked three innings, allowing no hits while striking out two. Levi Schade also saw time on the mound, giving up one hit, two earns and recording one strike out.

Junior Derick Robison led the offensive explosion as he went yard for the first time this year in a 3-3 performance that included four RBIs. Cooper Schade ended 3-4 with two RBIs, three doubles and two runs.

Saturday’s contest was the first of four straight road games for the Dinos. Now 2-1 on the season, the team will travel Monday to meet Bountiful and again Tuesday to face Provo. The road trip will come to a close on Friday against Grantsville.
