The Emery Spartans wrapped up a three-game homestand with an 11-0 loss to the Uintah Utes Thursday afternoon in Castle Dale.

Looking to rebound from 14-1 loss to Payson on Wednesday, the Spartans were faced with a near immediate deficit. Trailing 2-0 at the end of the first inning Emery allowed runs in four of the next five before Uintah ended the game at the end of the fifth.

Offensively the Spartans struggled at the plate as the team was held to just two hits throughout the contest. Juniors Luke Stilson and Jax Madsen each finished 1-3 at the plate, both registering singles.

Sophomore Oakley Alton was charged with the loss on the bump as he threw two complete innings, allowing six hits and five earned runs, while striking out one. Bron Gordon threw two innings giving up three hits, while Kove Johansen surrendered one earned run in one frame of relief work.

Thursday’s game ends a strand of three-games in three-days for the Spartans, who finished 1-2 in that time frame. After earning a thrilling 6-5 win over North Sanpete, the team dropped games Wednesday and Thursday to Payson and Uintah.

The Spartans will now take a break from the field of play for the immediate future. Thursday afternoon the Utah High School Activities Association suspended spring activities for a minimum of two weeks due to ongoing prevention efforts with the COVID-19 virus.
