The Carbon County Office of Tourism is doing their part during the COVID-19 pandemic by offering community members Virtual Vacations. Tourism Specialist, Tina Henrie took some time to visit with Castle Country Radio to explain the concept.

“Well as you know with the COVID-19 it’s kind of put tourism on the back burner and I sat down with Economic Development Specialist, Rita Vigor and we just started going over some ideas that we could start doing on social because everyone is having to go on line,” said Henrie. “We have parents homeschooling kids at home and that’s kind of what started it, the idea is what if the kids want to see somewhere else in the world so I started doing some research and I came up with the idea of Virtual Vacation.” The vacation segments are shared every day at 11:30 am, Monday through Friday on the Carbon Corridor Facebook page you can see the various locations being featured and talked about.

“We started off with Bryce Canyon, my friends down there in Bryce Canyon, did a virtual tour there and then we’ve shown the Swell and from a visitor’s outlook we’ve looked at Nine Mile Canyon and today we did a live remote from the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum with Tim Riley and he is going to continue those,” stated Henrie. The tourism office is also looking at doing a live remote of a local bike shop owner riding the Wood Hill Trails. Virtual Vacation segments not only keep residents busy but it also gives future potential visitors a chance to learn about our local area.
