The Utah High School Activities Association announced an extension to the ongoing suspension of the Association’s spring activities and athletics, due to ongoing statewide prevention efforts with the COVID-19 virus.
As a result of Governor Herbert’s directive in a March 23 press conference, the Association continues to suspend all UHSAA spring activities and athletics, including practice and/or team gatherings, until at least May 1, in line with the state-recommended extension to the school soft closure.
The Region 12 girl’s golf season had completed two competitions at the time of the suspension. Carbon had finished third in each of the first two tournaments, but had shown signs of promise in a chase with Emery for second place.
March 5:
The Carbon Lady Dinos opened the 2020 golf season with a third-place finish at the Cove View Golf Course in Richfield.
Senior Jordan Bianco posted the team low score with an 83, which places her fifth overall in the individual standings. Kirsten Etzel logged a 101, while Rhiannon Timmons finished with a 103. Savanna Rasmussen and Makalah Gomez tied for the fourth score at 122.
Bianco’s 83 places her just eight-strokes back of Richfield’s Ellie Hair, who currently holds the top spot in the region after shooting a 75. The top four spots belong to Richfield players after the season opener.
March 9:
For the second straight week the Carbon Lady Dinos finished third overall at the Region 12 golf meet, this time in Moab.
It was a tough day, we just didn’t perform,” said head coach Kenji Otani. “Too many off line shots and off line shots at Moab will punish you. We also struggled on the greens.”
Senior Jordan Bianco again led the team with an individual score of 91. Kirsten Etzel was second with a 107, followed by Rhiannon Timmons’ 109. Savanna Rasmussen and Makalah Gomez both ended with a 120 for the team’s fourth score.
