There have been many establishments that have re-opened as of May 1. Unfortunately, the Carbon and Emery County Senior Centers are considered a “hot spot” so they are unable to open their doors at this time. Castle Country Radio was able to speak on the telephone with Aging Director, Robbie Jensen about what their current operating status is at this time.

“Our population that we serve is the senior population, so those that are 60 and older and they are still considered high risk, so they’re still in that red zone that we just merge out of into the orange or the moderate. So, we are still considered high risk and so we are not allowed to open with the regulations that are in place now,” stated Jensen. It’s is very important that the facility follows the state’s COVID-19 regulations at this time to keep the staff and patrons safe.

The center is still offering curbside service for the Senior Center Lunch program Monday through Thursdays at the Carbon County Center.  “We still have our doors locked so no in-center dining. We’re still just doing curbside delivery, as well as the home-delivered meals for seniors in the county,” said Jensen. Any seniors that feel uncomfortable going out into the community can contact the Carbon Center to have themselves put on the mobile meals program for the time being.

Curbside service lunches are being handed out at the center located at 418 South Fairgrounds Road. “Here in Carbon County we are open Monday through Thursday, 11:45 am to 12:45 pm is when we are doing the curbside meals here at the center. Home delivered meals those go out anywhere between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm depending on where they would fall in the route, again that is Monday through Thursday,” explained Jensen. As for seniors in the Emery County area, curbside service is offered from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm on Mondays at the centers in Ferron, Huntington and Emery, then on Tuesdays, it’s offered at the Castle Dale Center, while Green River conducts their curbside service on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Jensen finished by talking about what the future has in store for the Senior Centers, “We’ve never been in this situation before and so it makes it a little tough to make long term decisions on things that are going on. So we have no set date right now on when we will be opening, nothing even in the timeline. So when we figure out when we will be opening, we will let everyone know.” To learn more about the Carbon and Emery County Senior Centers visit their websites or call your designated center.
