The Carbon County Fair will be taking place on August 10 through August 12 and its time to submit your open-class exhibit items. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with USU Extension Assistant Professor in Family and Consumer Sciences, Christina Pay to get all the details.

The open-class category is open to any individuals that are not involved in the 4H Program. “So again this is the open-class exhibits and its open to anyone in the county ages 5 through 105, I guess you could say. These are people who might not be involved in 4H, like you said, these are community members. We want to showcase all of the talent that is out there so whether you make jewelry, you bake bread, you paint, you take photographs or maybe you have some creative things that you do that you want to show, we want you to show it. We want you to bring them and let the community see what you can do,” said Pay. Items can include needlework, quilts, knitting, baked goods, candy, preserved foods, floriculture and horticulture – the items are endless.

To enter an open-class exhibit you must complete a registration form for every item entered into the competition. “There is a website that has been built specifically for the fair https://www.carbonutah.com/department/county-fair/ and if you go to the https://www.carbonutah.com/department/county-fair/ and scroll down the page you’ll see a link for open-class exhibits. There’s a registration form, as well as, the Fair Book, and you’ll want to use the Fair Book so you know what department and what category and class that your item is in. Whether its something from your garden or maybe you’ve done some sewing or a quilt or whatever it might be, you need to register it so that we know what is coming in and we can have it already for you to exhibit that,” said Pay. This pre-registration will allow for organizers to have all the documents available when you bring your item to be checked in/displayed at the Carbon County Fairgrounds Event Center.

Any article exhibited at the Carbon County Fair must have been produced in Carbon County and prepared within the current fair year of August 11, 2022 – August 11, 2023. “Just to let you know that the exhibits will be accepted on Thursday, August 10 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Then they will be judged the following morning. Then premium money can be picked up for those who get ribbons, Friday, August 11 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm or Saturday, August 12 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm,” said Pay.
