The Carbon County Senior Center is ready to kick-off an eventful month of April that happens to be full of three fundraisers. Each year the center will host the annual Book & Puzzle Sale, the Deal Me In Lunch & Game Party and the 60 Shades 3K/5K Fun Walk/Run, all of which the proceeds earned benefit the center.

“So, April 9 through the 13th is our Book and Puzzle Sale. Our book sale for $.25 a piece or 5 for a $1.00, it’s a bargain; hard-backs we charge $.50 for them, puzzles are usually $.50 to a $1.00. We have all genres, just about anything you can think of,” said Director Debby Kobe. The center obtains their books through public donations and shares any duplicate copies with other senior centers in nearby communities. The sale will take place during the designated sale week from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The next enjoyable event for community members will take place from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm for the Deal Me in Lunch & Game Party. “On Saturday, April 21 – now this is open to the community, anybody can come, it’s $15.00 to come, it’s a fundraiser for the senior center. We’re going to have a spaghetti dinner with meatballs, breadsticks, salad, a lemon cookie and we’re going to have lots of games,” said Kobe. The games are for individuals 12 years old and up, with prizes donated by several local businesses from around the Castle Valley area. Those businesses include Bruno Engineering, BODEC Electric, Cold Stone Creamery, Market Express, Pick & Rail Market, JBs Restaurant, Love Floral, El Salt Mexican Restaurant, Apple Country Crafts, Grako’s American Car Care Center, Groggs Pinnacle Brewing Company, Marsha’s Sammich Shop, Key Bank, Debby Kobe, Tammy Vea, R&A Market & Deli and Camilla Bryson-Perfectly Posh.

The CCSC has partnered with Carbon County Recreation again this year to put on the 60 Shades 3K/5K Fun Walk/Run. “We have that out near the Senior Center so that if somebody can only do a short version, they can come back to the Senior Center and that is also $15.00 a person and it includes a t-shirt,” said Kobe. There is a $25.00 family price that covers two adults and three children without an event t-shirt but can purchase them for $8.00 per person.

Other activities taking place during the month of April are for senior citizens who are at least 60 years of age. “On April 10 we got Washington Federal, they’re coming to the Senior Center and they’re going to do a seminar on Identity Theft it will be about 12:30 pm when they do that seminar,” stated Kobe. Also coming in to meet with the seniors on April 16 is Utah Legal Services who will be conducting free 30-minute consultations on any legal matters. Seniors who are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity will need to call the center to schedule an appointment.  Wells Fargo Bank will be giving a presentation on Living in Retirement and sponsoring lunch on April 18.

There have been some misconceptions regarding the Senior Center’s operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, excluding holidays. Lunch is available from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, including Fridays.
