Another outstanding defensive performance propelled the Carbon Lady Dinos to a blowout victory as they advanced to the semifinals with a hefty 64-34 win over Stansbury Thursday evening in Cedar City at the Centrum on the campus of Southern Utah University.

Jumping out to a massive 22-3 lead at the end of the opening quarter, the Lady Dinos held Stansbury under 10 points in three of the first four individual quarters. The stellar defensive performance continued in the second quarter as Carbon extended their lead to 32-12 at half time; making the second half a mere formality.

Taylor Passarella recorded an all-around solid performance finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds, registering the game's only double-double. Chandelle Nichols and Sara Morley both finished with 11 points. Kelsey Sorenson and Lindsey Blanc mirrored each other with seven points and three steals.

Meeting for the first time since last year's quarterfinals match-up that ended in a two-point overtime win for Carbon, the Lady Dinos were as dominate as ever. The win comes just one week after a blowout victory over Bear River in the tournament's opening round.

Amber Spaulding provided Stansbury one of very few bright spots during Thursday's contest, finishing with nine points. Katrina Flint chipped in with eight and Angie Kilpack scored seven. The loss drops Stansbury into the consolation bracket Friday morning.

Just one step away from playing for the state championship, the Lady Dinos will have to get through Cedar High School Friday evening. The winner will move to face either Pine View or Snow Canyon Saturday night.

Tip-off for Friday's semifinals contest is scheduled to take place at 5:50 pm.
