The USU-Eastern women's basketball season came to a close Thursday night as the Lady Golden Eagles suffered an 84-67 loss to the North Idaho Cardinals in the opening round of the Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Despite a solid start to the contest, USU-Eastern found themselves in a 24-20 hole at the end of the first quarter. Outscored 27-18 and 21-13 in the following two periods, the deficit was too much to overcome in the fourth quarter, leading to the eventual loss.

Maile Richardson led the way for the Golden Eagles scoring 21 points from the post position. Clarissa Perez and Barbara Cousino chipped in with 14 points a piece and Ana Borges ended with eight points and eight boards.

Shelby Cloninger pace North Idaho with 18 points and six boards. Stormee Van Belle chipped in with 16 points and six boards. Has a team North Idaho finished 47-percent from the field, compared to 37-percent for the Lady Golden Eagles.

Thursday's loss brings an end to USU-Eastern's first year under head coach Chelsey Warburton. In a season that had several ups and downs, Warburton's group finished with a record of 9-20, including a 4-6 mark at home.
