The Emery Lady Spartans softball team exploded offensively in the sixth inning to storm past the Summit Academy Bears 15-7 Friday afternoon in Bluffdale.

Bailey Huggard pitched all six innings, giving up only eight hits while striking out seven batters to lead the Lady Spartans. Playing sound defense Emery played error free softball as they earned their first victory of the season. Holding an 8-6 lead entering the sixth frame the Lady Spartans scored seven runs to pull away for good.

Kelsey Reeve led the potent offensive attack finishing 4-4 at the plate with four RBI of a double and a triple. Shaylee Jewkes also finished 4-4 recording one RBI, while scoring three runs. As a team Emery finished the game with 16 hits, doubling the amount of Summit Academy.

Now 1-1 on the season, Friday's win comes following a season opening loss to the Carbon Lady Dinos. The turn around for Emery will be quick as they travel on the road Tuesday to meet the Grand Red Devils in the region opener.

Following Tuesday's clash with Grand, the Lady Spartans will return home for a non-region tilt with Altamont on Wednesday.
