The Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartans opened up the track and field season with a trip to Moab for the Red Rock Invitational Saturday.
On the boys side of the track the Spartans finished in fourth place with 65 points, topping fifth place Carbon by just one. San Juan finished in first with 116.5, followed by Eagle Valley Colorado with 115.5. Grand managed to creep ahead of both Emery and Carbon, finishing third with 76 points.
On the girls side of the track Eagle Valley placed first with a dominating 136 points performance. Grand finished in second with 105, followed by Carbon in third with 104.5. Wayne and Emery rounded out the top five.
Emery senior Tyler Olsen delivered a stellar performance by taking home first place in both the high jump and long jump. Fellow senior Paytn Jeffs also finished first in the same two events for the Lady Spartans. Senior Erin Hurst finished in first place in the 3200 meter race, finishing with a time of 12:16.82.
For the Lady Dinos senior Jordyn Oman logged first place nods in the 100 and 200 meters. The boys sprint medley relay team consisting of Antonio Mecham, Derik Riley, Drew Jones and Carter Fausett also finished first with a time of 4:14.23.
