The Emery Spartans failed to register a single hit as they were shutout for the second time this season
in a 10-0 loss to the Uintah Utes Wednesday afternoon in a non-league tilt.

Meeting the Utes for the second time this season, the two games played out very similar. Opening the season at home against Uintah back on March 8, the Spartans were shutout 13-0. Wednesday’s loss dips the team’s overall record to 2-9 overall.

While Wednesday’s game has little meaning on the regular season, Emery will face the San Juan Broncos on the road Friday in a highly important region tilt. Tuesday the Spartans failed to keep pace with the Broncos and eventually suffered an 8-2 loss.

Registering just three hits in the league loss, the Spartans never led as they scored their only two runs in the bottom of the third already down 5-0. During the outing Emery accumulated just three hits compared to nine for San Juan.

Emery is currently at the bottom of the 2A East standings joining Monticello as the only two teams without a win. Gunnison is currently 1-1, while San Juan, Grand and North Sevier all have three wins in the early part of the season.

Following Friday’s region contest with San Juan the Spartans will meet Gunnison twice, once on April 12, and again on April 15 in a home and away set.
