The Carbon County Economic Development Department has just started a new committee.  The group is using a grass roots approach with a full range of members from private businesses on through to government agencies.  We are so excited about this committee, and what it brings to your community in developing our economy.

Carbon County has experienced a lot of growth in the past year.  Castleview Hospital completed their $9 million dollar expansion project, and is getting ready this summer to break ground for the new $1.5 million dollar Urgent Care facility.

Utah State University Eastern is a huge asset to Carbon County.  They completed their new $20 million dollar building, and has since hired several new advisors and staff.  USU-E programs continue to grow, enhancing our community.  This University is flexible and adaptable to the needs of businesses and people here.  They teach specific courses and work with companies to create programs that provide an educated and ready workforce.   They are also able to customize training for businesses which will provide us with an educated and ready workforce.

Additional signs of new economic development are the Holiday Inn Express, Dairy Queen, Tractor Supply and additional growth within local businesses is taking an upturn.  To keep up with the growing business expansion demands, our local Zion’s Bank has recently hired 3 additional professional staff.

New projects are in the works.  Holiday Inn Express is working hard to lease their remaining property including Dairy Queen that is currently being constructed and there are several companies looking to locate business here in Carbon County.  For example, Revolution Fuel is still working with Utah Department of Air Quality for their permits.  Once approved this company will start with 60 employees and as they complete their project will hire an additional 200 – 300 more.    Recently, four new businesses announced over 300 new jobs; Day Pacer, Direct Business Lending, Key Research Solutions, and Accelerant Business Solutions Provider.  They will offer diversified employment opportunities ranging from qualifications of High School students to College degree individuals.  Many of the jobs are customer contact positions.  We are also excited many more will be technical positions and certification programs; these will be starting much sooner than planned.

A goal of Economic Development is to bring positive and healthy environment changes to Carbon County.  This momentum takes time and a great deal of effort to create.  Carbon County is moving in the right direction. This is positive growth of Economic Development for the future economy and businesses to our area.
