The USU Eastern is just weeks away from closing out the 2015-2016 school year. The community as well as students, have seen some big changes on campus this year with the new Central Instructional Building, the relocation and remodel of the Cosmetology Department, plus the addition of new sport programs.

David Mathis, Marketing Manager spoke about the remainder of the school year, “With graduation in the air we just want to encourage any high school students that haven’t made up their mind where they are going to go to school next fall for college, there’s still time to apply to USU Eastern, there’s still academic scholarships available. There is still a lot of opportunities for you to move right on into a successful college career here locally.” For further details on scholarships visit their website at https://usueastern.edu/scholarships/index

The newly established softball program has hired their assistant coach and now can buckle down to recruiting players to build a full squad for the 2016-2017 school year.

Another addition to the athletic program is further explained by Mathis, “We do have a new coach for the Spirit Squad and along with the new coach we are also reintroducing dance, we had it on campus before but it went away. But we are bringing it back now so we’ve got a new coach her name is Brandi Taylor, she’s been a successful dance coach up in Salt Lake with the high school level she’s down here in this area now and we’ve brought her on to be our Spirit Squad Coordinator.”  The dance program was a strong tradition when the college was established back as the College of Eastern Utah, so bringing it back at USU Eastern is a huge asset to the athletic program.

Auditions for the USU Eastern Spirit Squad will be held Saturday, April 16 for both the Cheer Squad and Dance Team. “If you are a high school senior that wants to dance or cheer next year or if you are a current student at USU Eastern or a transfer student and you are interested in the teams be sure to show up this Saturday at the BDAC on campus, its 9:00 am for cheer and 2:00 pm for dance. So you will be able to meet the new coaches, try-out, we’re excited to have anybody that is interested coming and participating,” said Mathis. A $25.00 audition fee and headshots will be required by all contestants, however, the cheer contestants are also required to bring a copy of their insurance card. Further information about the auditions may be found on the athletics website at http://usueasternathletics.com/

USU Eastern has been establishing new programs both academically and athletically to accommodate the community both in Carbon and Emery but most importantly attracting students from outside the area. Mathis finished with gripping statement, “We got some big news coming up for athletics that we hope the community will be excited about it’s just going to continue to build the school, the image of our school and the athletics programs. So stay tune we’re not ready to quite do the full release just yet but we got some exciting news coming up soon.”
