Sam Gallegos, 71, was welcomed home by his son Nicholas and many other loved ones on April 14th, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on February 23rd, 1945 to Cosme and Pauline Florez Gallegos.

After graduating he enlisted in the US Navy and really enjoyed seeing all the sights of the South Pacific.

He married the love of his life, Virginia Herrera, on June 29th 1976.  They had 2 children Nicholas and Danielle, who were so proud to call him their father.  He also had two grandchildren, Nikayla & Ryder, who stole his heart and brought him so much joy.

Sam was an underground mechanic/electrician in the coal mines for 27 years with various companies, Energy West being the company he retired with.  He was also a member of the U.M.W.A.  After a brief retirement he worked for The Greenwell Inn doing maintenance work to keep from being idle.  During his time with both of these professions he gained many wonderful friendships.

Sam enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family, golfing on Tuesdays with the seniors, fishing with his great friend Kevin, golfing on Thursdays with the group that went out of town, vacationing with Virginia, and golfing in general.  He served on the board of directors at Carbon Country Club for 7 years where he made many wonderful friendships and memories also.

He is survived by his wife Virginia; daughter, Danielle and son-in-law Chris Walkingshaw; grandchildren, Nikayla and Ryder; brother, John (Carmel) Gallegos; sisters, Yvonne (Roy) Nikas, Marcella (George) Hillas; sister in law, Helen Gallegos; and many loving nieces, nephews, and family.

Preceded in death by son, Nicholas Gallegos; parents, Cosme and Pauline Gallegos; brother, Charles Gallegos; and by a very special brother-in-law, Ed Stuckman.

Per Sam’s request there will be a graveside only at the Cliffview Cemetery on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at noon.  In lieu of flowers, we ask that you just share any memories you may have of Sam with us via card or online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
