The Carbon Lady Dinos track and field added another win to their already lengthy 2016 resume, as they defeated 16 other schools at the Old Capital Invitational in Millard Saturday afternoon.
Scoring 101 points during the 16 event competition, the Lady Dinos outpointed second place Millard by 13. Manti, North Sevier and Grand rounded out the top five. The Carbon boys again provided a solid showing, finishing second place with 81 point, just 10 behind first place Manti. Grand, Millard and Juab completed the top five.
On the girl’s side of the track Sara Morley posted two first place finishes in the field events. Finishing with a metric throw of 10.67, Morley easily outpointed the competition in the shot put. Delivering a similar performance in the discus, Morley topped Grand’s Halli Stocks with a metric throw of 28.88.
Lindsey Blanc and Sarah Ohlwiler scored the other first place nods for the Lady Dinos. Blanc finished ahead of the field in the 400 meters, finishing with a time of 1:03.03, defeating Grand’s Auburn Jackman who ended with a time of 1:03.22. Ohlwiler finished first in the long jump.
Gabe Vandyke led the Carbon boy’s team with two individual first place finishes. Blazing through the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 17.29 Vandyke earned the meet’s top time in the event. He followed that performance with a first-place nod in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 43.33.
Vandyke also had success in the 4X100 relay, helping Cache Barrett, Derek Hillam and Kyle Quinton to a first place finish with a time of 45.40. As a team Carbon logged seven total first-place finishes and multiple top-three nods to accumulate their points.
The track and field season will continue for the Dinos on Saturday as they travel to San Juan for the Blue Mountain Invitational.
