The Emery Spartans were held to just one run for the second consecutive game as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the North Sevier Wolves Tuesday afternoon in Salina.
North Sevier ace Fisher Anderson delivered a stellar performance on the hill striking out 14 batters while giving up just one run. The Spartans managed to accumulate three hits offensively and were held scoreless in the final six innings after jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first frame.
Bryce Dugmore was pegged with the loss on the hill for the Spartans, giving up three runs. The fifth frame happened to be the only inning North Sevier produced runs, despite accumulating 10 hits for the game.
Jordan Baletka recorded the lone extra base hit for Emery with a double. The Spartans encountered similar offensive problems in Friday’s loss to Gunniosn, producing just two hits in the loss.
Now 1-5 in 2A East action, the Spartans remain two games behind San Juan for the fourth and final playoff spot in the region. With only four games remaining on the league slate, Emery will meet last place Monticello twice, North Sevier and Grand.
Before resuming league play on Friday against North Sevier, the Spartans will play host to the Union Cougars in a non-region tilt Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday’s game will mark the second meeting between the two schools this season. Emery won the first back on March 29 by a final score of 4-3.
