USU-Eastern vice chancellor Greg Dart announced Friday on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports that Eagles assistant men’s basketball coach Justin Brown will not return next season.
Brown, a Chicago native, spent the last three seasons as the lead assistant under head coach Adjalma Becheli. The move leaves an opening on the coaching staff that the school will look to fill immediately.
“When we are talking about junior college athletics and especially assistant coaching there is a huge revolving door,” said Dart. “Coach Brown has been a rock for us. He has helped open up recruiting markets that we haven’t had before and he is an unbelievable coach. We are always sad to lose someone who has been apart of the program for several years.”
Filling the void left by former assistant Carter Roe in 2013, Brown joined the staff after previous coaching stops in Perspectives Charter School in Chicago, Ill., Southwest Baptist University and South Plains College.
Brown played two years of junior college basketball at South Plains from 2005-2007, leading the team to the Western Junior College Athletic Conference championship in 2007. Later he transferred to Southwest Baptist University where he helped win back-to-back conference championships in 2008 and 2009.
