The Carbon Dinos surrendered three runs in the second inning and never recovered as they suffered a 4-3 loss to the Juab Wasps in the regular season finale Friday in Nephi.

Just days after sweeping Juab in double-header action at home, the Dinos traveled on the road looking for the three game sweep. Trailing 3-0 going into the third frame Carbon responded with two runs to trim the deficit to one. Juab answered immediately in the bottom of the inning, adding their final run of the game. Carbon later trimmed the deficit once again to a single run, but wouldn’t get any closer.

Anthony Maclean was tagged with the loss on the hill as he allowed four runs and five hits in three innings. Taylon Abeyta and Cole Fossat finished off the remaining three innings in a relief effort, giving up just three hits and combining for five strikeouts.

Fossat led the way offensively finishing 2-4 at the plate with a double and a RBI. Mitch Olsen also registered an RBI, while Dallyn Mower ended 2-3 with a single and double.

Friday’s loss brings uncertainty to where Carbon will play in the opening round. Currently tied with Juab in the win column, the Dinos are two games behind in the loss column. Juab will play two make up games Monday and Tuesday, meaning one win would give them the No. 2 seed and dip Carbon to the No. 3. Two losses for Juab would put Carbon in the No. 2 spot.

The season ending state tournament will take place over seven days at various sites and is a true double-elimination format.
