The USU-Eastern softball team will hold a tryout for their inaugural season on June 21 at the Carbon County Fairgrounds.

Women who will graduate in 2017 or who currently have eligibility are invited to the open tryout. The cost to participate is $35.00 per person, and a tour of the USU-Eastern campus will be available before the session begins at 1:00 pm.

USU-Eastern’s softball program is led by Brittani Richins, who was named head coach of the program in early February. She has spent the past two season as an assistant coach at Lamar Community College in Colorado. A former player at Lamar CC, Richins was named freshman of the year for Region 9, the first and currently only player from the school to receive the honor. After finishing at Lamar, Richins played two years of Division 2 softball at Adams State.

In mid April Richins named Brandi Lovato her assistant coach. Lovato, a former college player at Adams State, has two year’s of coaching experience at the high school level. After spending one season at Judge Memorial, Lovato continued her coaching career at Skyline. The expectation is for Lovato to have an emphasis on the team’s pitching.

Those interested in trying out for the program are encouraged to RSVP with Richins by email (brittani.richins@usu.edu) before June 21.
