The Helper American Legion baseball team will open up the 2016 season on Wednesday as they travel to Roosevelt for a double-header beginning at 4:00 PM.

This year’s team will be led by seniors Cole Fossat, Anthony Maclean, Taylon Abeyta and Mitch Olson, who all just completed their final year of high school at Carbon. The team will also feature six players that are entering their senior season, including Logan Labrum and Tel Gardner from Emery.

Helper will be one of five teams in the Southern Utah Division, that will be competing for two playoff spots in the season ending tournament July 20, 21, 22 and 23 in Layton. The remainder of the division will consist of St. George, Roosevelt, Vernal and Price.

The home opener for Helper will take place on Friday when they’ll meet Roosevelt for another double-header in the final two meetings of the season. Next Wednesday Helper will host Price for two of their schedule four games, beginning at 6:00.

Helper will once again be under the instruction of manager Jeff Cisneros, and assistant coaches Dakota Cisneros, Joe Via and Kyle Abeyta.
