Our sweet dad and gramps, Carmin Bonacci, age 96, passed away June 12, 2016 at his home with his loved ones.
Dad was born July 19, 1919 in Sunnyside to Dominic and Maria Rosaria Bonacci. He married his beautiful Amelia Compagni on September 24th, 1940. She died February 2, 2003.
He was a lifelong resident of Sunnyside and East Carbon City. He loved living in East Carbon and in 2013 was named the Grand Marshall of Community Days.
Our Dad and his brother Mike helped start up the coke ovens in Sunnyside, then he worked for Geneva Steel at the Columbia mine and then at the Horse Canyon Mine. He retired in 1980 and was a proud member of the UMWA local #9958.
Dad prided himself on his memory (which was fantastic) and he would tell stories to all who would listen about his coal mining days and the men who he worked with. He loved watching football, but his favorite pastime was watching “Utes” football with his family. He always had a pocket full of Wurthers candy that he would pass out to all the children and his friends. He was a good-hearted man who could never say no to anyone and was always there with a smile to help.
He was a WWII Army Veteran and was honorably discharged in 1948.
Survived by his three children: Diana (Kent) Houghton, Helper, UT; Charles Bonacci, West Jordan; and, Judy Bonacci, East Carbon. Also survived by his grandchildren: Ron Law, Jennifer (Todd) Robertson, Jeff (Nicky) Bonacci, Jerrod (Lisa) Bonacci. Great grandchildren Scott, Mikel, Laci, Roni Lynne, Rylee, Cayden, Cole, Joey, Julianna, Isabella, Anthony and great-great grandchild Rilynn.
He was preceded in death by his wife Amelia; baby Cory Lee; his mother and father; brother Mike; sisters, Helen Pace, Clarinda and Mary; daughter-in law, Kathleen Bonacci. Also preceded in death by his Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law that he grew up with in Sunnyside, Columbia and East Carbon.
