Whether your child is a returning student or a new student to Mont Harmon Middle School they’re sure to notice some really big and exciting changes when they head back to school on Wednesday, August 24.
Principal Seth Allred who is going into his second year as principal of Mont Harmon spoke about the construction, “You know we need to talk about what’s going on at the building, whether or not we will be in there. There is a lot of rumors out there right now, we were talking to contractors yesterday and they fill real confident that we’re going to be ready for school, when time rolls around on the 24th.” It’s important that students and parents please show patience during the construction to ensure that everyone will be safe during this process.
The summer months have shown that contractors have worked feverishly by making a six-month project into a two-month job. “The appearance of the building and what they’re doing for all of you out there wondering, if you have watched that building get the roof tore off, we are year one of a two-year phase, so we’re in this again next year. They are going in because it was a flat roof, we had problems with leaking and problems drainage. So they have went in and raised the roof to get the fall they needed and then they’re putting heating and air in there that the building has not had air conditioning since they built it,” stated Allred. The physical changes itself when completed will give the school inside an industrial look with the new duct work running throughout the school.
With construction underway at the school, Allred addressed the public parking, “We are going to ask the public to come in from the west side of the building there, we’re going to put in a new security system in, we got new security doors, we got new things going in like that, it’s the way the world is. We got to high security function going in at Mont Harmon and so the office will look completely different. We’ll have people come through the office and ask during school hours that if you come into the office to park on that west side and come in.” This will help keep the parents/visitors to the school safe during the construction period.
Along with the physical changes to the building there is also going to be some fresh, new faces within the faculty. “The board approved and the superintendent that we do some different things and look at Mont Harmon, we are taking our Language Arts, Math and Science classes and the students are getting them every day for 70 minutes. So in order to do that we had to bring in a couple new teachers on board and when we look at a couple of new teachers, we’re going to have 13 new teachers there at Mont Harmon when we roll into this school year,” stated Allred. The new additions have also brought in a new football/basketball coach, Dave Justice will be taking on that roll and is currently conducting practice every night from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
