Carbon County Sheriff Jeff Wood in an effort to ensure the safety of children gave a reminder this week that summer is official over and “Back to School” means motorists in the Carbon County area will see increased traffic with buses, cars and pedestrians. The first day of school for Pinnacle was on Monday, August 22 and for the schools within the Carbon School District will begin on Wednesday, August 24.
“We need to watch for our kids standing at the bus stop, Old Wellington Road, Miller Creek, Spring Glen, all those areas,” stated Wood. “Keep a sharp eye out for the kiddies, you know the sun hangs just in a terrible place, so if you are driving into the sun know there could be kids standing on the side of the road.” Motorists should exercise patience on the roads and be conscious of special speed limits when traveling through school zones and remember to observe all traffic rules concerning school buses.
Changing gears to a huge victory for detectives at the Sheriff’s office, it was a huge sigh of relief that they were able to get an arrest in the Loretta Jones cold case. Thomas Edward Egley was arrested in Colorado where he resided for the rape and murder of Jones back in July 1970. “Dave Brewer and his team are amazing, Brewer has been working on that case for almost nine years. He started it on his own and he has worked through it through all these years and amazing how he stayed with that and was able to get an arrest out of it,” stated Wood. Brewer recently obtained Egley’s confession to raping and killing Jones and destroying evidence that would have linked him to the crime. Egley now awaits the extradition process in Colorado before being returned to Utah to face his rape and murder charges.
