The Emery Lady Spartans played their second non-region game of the week to 1-1 tie on the road against the Richfield Wildcats Thursday night.
Looking to rebound from a 7-2 loss to the North Sanpete Hawks on Tuesday, the Lady Spartans took a 1-0 lead into the break. Despite the success of the first half, Emery allowed one goal in the final minutes that forced overtime. The two teams played to a scoreless tie the rest of the way.
Thursday’s draw places Emery at 2-3-1 on the season as they remain the only team to not play a league contest. The Lady Spartans were outscored 21-9 during the non-region slate, which includes an 8-0 setback against Provo in the opener.
Despite three losses Emery managed to record wins over Carbon and Union, giving them the most victories in the region heading into league play. The region portion of the schedule will begin on Thursday, Sept 8 when they play host to the Manti Templars.
Region 15 action opened up Thursday night for the four other teams that share the region with the Spartans. Manti cruised past North Sevier 8-0, and the Grand Red Devils blanked Gunnison 4-0.
With just over a month remaining in the regular season, the remaining eight games on the schedule will all be league contests.
