The Emery Spartans developed a comfortable lead for second place in the Region 15 standings as they shot a season low 346 Thursday afternoon at their home course in Millsite.

Still falling 11 strokes shy of first place Grand, the Spartans finished 52 shots ahead of then second place Manti in Thursday’s meet. Oakley Toomer and Race Nielson both led the way with a year best 85.

Grand’s 335 was enough to extend their domination in league play. Manti struggled to a third place tie with San Juan as the two schools finished with a 398. Gunnison and North Sevier rounded out the field of six in the fourth meet of the year.

McKoy Holt posted the third best individual score for the Spartans with an 86. Shaidyn Killpack fired a 90, Taylor Lindsey ended with a 112 and Austin Albrecht shot a 133.

While trailing Grand by a hefty 185 strokes for first place, the Spartans now hold a 41 shot lead over Manti for second place. Emery will have an opportunity to extend their advantage on Thursday, Sept. 8 when they travel to Palisade Golf Course in Manti.
