Castle Heights Elementary faculty/staff and students are back in the swing of things for a brand new school year. Teachers are busy getting to know their students and vice versa. Students are settling into their new classrooms, connecting with old friends and making new friends.

A brand new After-school Program will be offered this year as Principal Chris Winfree explains, “The district received a grant from the Intergenerational Poverty Grant and it supplies funding to provide an After School program. Each school has a Site Coordinator and then some aides to help facilitate the program.” Participating students will receive assistance with academics in both mathematics and language arts but there will also be fun activities planned. “It’s an opportunity for the kids to learn somethings that they may not get to learn in the normal school day. You know working on some skills some of these kids may lack or may not receive all the time, even like hygiene skills, how to prepare food, things like that, so it’s really exciting to have.” The program will also feature different members of the community to come speak with students about various career options they may not know that are available.

The school has several new faces to the faculty due to retirement and because of the growth of the school six new teachers have been added this year. “We were able to bring in quite a few teachers to Carbon County area who aren’t from here which is a really great thing to infuse some new excitement and enthusiasm in Castle Heights,” stated Winfree. Two of the teachers are from out of state and really could bring in some great ideas for Castle Heights.
