The Carbon Dinos dropped their seventh straight contest of the season as they fell to the 3A North leading Morgan Trojans 48-7 at home Friday night.

Needing a win to remain a major player in the playoff race, the Dinos were unable to keep pace with the mighty Trojans. Trailing 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, the Carbon deficit grew to 28 by the end of the first half. The final two quarters were a formality as Morgan improved to 3-0 in league action.

Nathan Olsen again led the struggling Carbon offense with 102 yards on the ground off of only 14 carries. Olsen also scored the team’s only touchdown of the game in the third quarter, crossing the goal line on a 13-yard run.

Morgan quarterback Tucker Skinner completed eight of 14 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns as the Trojans rolled offensively. Seven different players registered double digits in yardage on the ground, while Austin Francis scored one touchdown.

Friday’s loss puts Carbon at the bottom of the standings looking for their first region win alongside the Union Cougars. With only two games remaining in the league season, both Carbon and Union are two games back, meaning both need to win out to have a chance of sneaking into the post season.

The Dinos will wrap up the home portion of the regular season on Friday when they play host to the Juan Diego Soarin’ Eagles. The team will then wrap up league play the following week against Union, in a game that could have major playoff implications.
