On September 28, 2016, Laura Jane Whittingham Goss, age 83, passed away and left this world the same way she came into it, with a wonderful, quiet dignity.
She was born to Frederick Erdle Whittingham and Jane Harrison on October 1, 1932 in the small town of Montrose, Colorado. She spent her childhood on the family ranch in Cimarron, riding horses, playing with her brothers, her cousins, and her dogs, and learning how to work hard and do the best she could at everything she was given to do.
She married John H. Goss on April 25, 1952 in Aztec, New Mexico. They are the parents of three children, Stacey A. Goss (Dalpiaz) Grand Junction, CO, Jonathan D. (Barbara) Goss, Rexburg, ID, and Lenora “Janie” (Steven) Jones, Lake Tapps, WA. She has 9 grandchildren and a wonderful group of great grandchildren that will always look up to her as an example of acceptance and compassion.
Laura went to school to be a beautician and used to cut all of the children’s hair as well as that of any other family member that asked. She worked at the Century Cafe in Price, Utah for many years before taking a job at Merrill Motors in the parts department, where she worked until her retirement. John and Laura made their home in Price, living there from 1957 until January 2002 after John passed away, when Laura moved to Grand Junction, Colorado. She had a great love for the many pets she had over the years, many of whom seemed to share both her small stature and her feisty personality. She enjoyed growing flowers, needlework, jigsaw puzzles, reading, cheering for the Utah Jazz and Denver Broncos and watching the many birds that she fed in the yard. She had a great impact in the lives of those that know and love her and will greatly missed.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren, and was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, her brothers Delmar and Erdle Whittingham, her sister, Sharon May Whittingham, and her parents.
A viewing will held Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 10:30-11:00 a.m. at the Fruita First Ward at 417 East Ottley in the Relief Society Room. Graveside services will follow immediately at the Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, Colorado with Bishop Jonathan Goss conducting.
