The Miss Carbon County Scholarship Organization will be hosting their annual pageant on Saturday, October 22 at 7:00 pm at the Price City Auditorium. Admission is $7.00 per person, children three years old and under are free. All proceeds earned from the event go back into the organization.
The seven contestants have been busy for weeks preparing for the pageant by attending various workshops leading up to the pageant. Rebecca Taylor, Assistant Director gives more details, “These girls have been working for several weeks on all kinds of different skills, with this pageant they have a talent that they have to perform, there is an interview that they have with the judges that is quite extensive, so we’ve done practice interviews, we’ve gone over their talents, they have production numbers that they have to learn. They’ve just been practicing all sorts of things.”
To be eligible contestants must range from the ages of 17 to 24 years of age and reside in Carbon County. The young ladies vying for the title this year are Madison Burrola, Gabby Wall, Kayla Davis, Laini Davis, Breanna Nielsen, Kiley Funk and Kaylee Leautaud.
Categories that the contestants will be judge on include, interview, swimwear, talent, on-stage question and evening gown. Each category is a based on a percentage of the contestant’s overall score. Taylor spoke about another crucial point of the pageant, “Each girl has to pick a platform, something that they are going to do throughout if they are selected as Miss Carbon County. That they will be basically giving back to their community, it’s a service platform, something that they will focus on the whole year.”
There will be over $2,000.00 awarded in scholarships to the new Miss Carbon County 2017, as well as to the young ladies that place as first and second attendant. Taylor added, “This is a scholarship pageant, so these girls are college bound. They are interested in improving themselves and this is a great step to get to that next level.”
The newly crowned Miss Carbon County 2017 will be given the opportunity to represent the county at the Miss Utah pageant in June 2017.
