America’s Navy is coming to Price, Utah, one of 18 cities in seven states to host a performance by the United States Navy Band during its Fall 2016 tour. It is one of the signature outreach programs of the U.S. Navy.
The United States Navy Band Commodores performance is scheduled for Thursday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the USU-Eastern Campus.
Melissa Bishop, Senior Chief, “The Commodores are an 18-member ensemble it’s big band jazz at its finest and it’s just a fantastic group. I’m a jazz fan and have been for a long time but they are probably one of the best jazz ensembles I’ve ever heard.” The Commodores have appeared on TV shows, played nearly all major jazz festivals and toured across the United States and abroad.
One of the U.S. Navy Band’s primary responsibilities involves touring the country. Allowing the band to reach out to audiences in areas of the country that do not have opportunities to see the Navy’s premier musical ensembles on a regular basis. Bishop added, “There will be something for everyone, really we make these concerts entertaining and family friendly and they are free and open to the public. So we encourage your listeners to come out and support Navy’s band and let us entertain you.”
The Commodores 2016 tour will cover 18 cities and 2,500 miles. The group looks forward to entertaining folks especially the veterans from all branches of the military. “The best parts of our performances whether we are here in Washington DC or whether we are touring we get to perform for communities and support veterans in those communities who built our Navy and defended our country. One of the ways we do that is by ending every concert with the service songs from each branch of the military.” Audience members are allowed to stand for a loved one that is either currently serving in the military or are now a veteran, this is a moving portion of the band concert plus it’s an opportunity to show your appreciation to all service men and women.
