Sheriff Jeff Wood and his deputies are excited to be out in the neighborhoods again this year for Halloween and making visits to local schools this week for Red Ribbon week.

Wood describes, “Halloween Monday, the Sheriff’s office will be out in force on Halloween we’re going to do what we did last year with the UTVs. We got four teams of deputies on UTVs and I’ll be out on one myself in the neighborhoods where there are a lot of kids. We’ll have candy with us and have the kids come up to us, we’ll be happy to interact with them and give them some candy. But don’t run out into the street, get our attention and we’ll come to you.” Last year during Halloween there were a few medical incidents and it was a blessing that deputies were nearby to assist.

Motorists need to be mindful while driving through neighborhoods. “It gets dark so fast, now with the Fall weather the way the sun is, the sky, it gets dark fast. You know I think a lot of people don’t realize but Main Street in Price, I would trick or treat there and even at the Sheriff’s office we’ll have candy at the Sheriff’s office for kids. But I know the courthouse, the new courthouse is going to have some candy, they are hoping to have trick or treaters come through there, so that would be areas to hit early then go hit your favorite neighborhood,” said Wood. Neighborhoods where deputies will be patrolling will be in Westwood, the Coves, the Castle Heights area and neighborhoods behind the old Kmart building.

Deputies are very busy this week joining students in the Carbon School District for Red Ribbon week. “We have the high school tomorrow; they are having an assembly in the afternoon and we have a banner there If you see something, say something banner and so we want to kind of explain that to the kids what that’s all about. You know a lot of that based around bullying but it’s good for anything and we want kids to know who they can trust and they can tell a responsible person or a teacher or one of our deputies or school security if there is anything major going on, hopefully to put an end to issues before they become major issues,” said Wood. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign which helps unify the schools by promoting a drug-free lifestyle through various student activities during the week.

Carbon County Sheriff’s Office would like to wish all the children in the area a safe and happy Halloween.
