Earl Dempsey Lund or “Jack” as many knew him, age 83, joined his eternal sweetheart on November 2, 2016, passing away peacefully at home.

He was born on July 27, 1933 in Salt Lake City to Earl William Lund and Hazel Louise Gunderson. Married Dewean Snow Lund, December 4, 1959 in Salt Lake City; their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on May 3, 1963.

Earl was the kind of man that once you knew him, you would never forget him! He was a strong man, in spirit and determination and love for his family! His family was his pride and joy! Nothing gave him more happiness than his sweetheart, his children and grandchildren. This was his greatest accomplishment, nothing he would ever do in life would top being called Husband, Pops, Dad and Grandpa.

He knew how to work and was not afraid to take on two and three jobs at a time too provide for his family. He was a “Jack” of all trades! He was a man of his word and once he told you he would do something…he did it!!

He was a super fan of BYU sports and the Utah Jazz and the Colorado Rockies. You would know what team was going to be playing by the hat he was wearing!  He served and loved his country! Whenever and wherever he was, if the National Anthem began playing, his hat would come off, his hand would go over his heart and often a tear would appear in his eyes.

He retired from the College of Eastern Utah where he was the Machine Shop Instructor for many years. He loved teaching his trade and there are many students who benefited from his knowledge.

Earl was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served honorably and faithfully, with his eternal companion, in the Many Farms Arizona Mission, thus fulfilling a life long dream. He served in many callings and positions within the church but his real joy was working with the Explorers, making many memories fishing, hiking and camping in the Uintahs. He also treasured working with the Indian Placement Program. He loved the Native American people and because of this love, his home became a safe haven for many.

This wonderful man leaves a void that no one could ever fill. He was our Super Hero and how lucky we were to call him Dad!!

Earl is survived by four daughters and three sons, Kim Mortensen, Joe Lund, Jim Lund, Kris (Rod) Daugherty, Sue (Johnny) Rich: Foster children, Floyd (Brenda) James, Gloria, Melva, David, Arlinda, Rivka, Ravis and JoAnn; sister, Arlene (Roland) Fisher, in-laws; Dora Mae, Bud, Louise (Bruce), Jane (Brian), Lila, Butch (Pat), Jim, Phillip (Usa), Donald (Sue), David, Cora Lou (Jay), and Corky; 16 grandchildren, Trista (Spencer) Johnson, Brittany Mortensen & Fernando, Brittny Doran & Nigel, Lauren Lund, Josh Lund, Adriana James, Devyn James, Ty Lund, Brandon & Ashlea, Travis Norton, Sadey Daugherty, Gage Daugherty, Jordyn Daugherty, Aaliyah Ellingsworth and Amaya Ellingsworth; 10 great-grandchildren, Lily, Merrick, Maddox, Abbie, Gemma, Aubree, Jace, Bentley, Hayden and Aubree; numerous nieces and nephews and a community of friends.
