The Desertview Credit Union in both Huntington and Ferron are working together with the local Sheriff Offices’ and Utah Highway Patrol to collect new car seats, gift cards and monetary donations this year in place of the Angel Tree program.
“We are working together with the local Sheriff offices and Highway Patrol to collect new car seats,” said Jennifer Morgan, Representative. “Because once you are in an accident with a child in the car seat, the car seat shouldn’t be used.” Child car seats must be replaced according to the manufacturer and not used again as they could potentially fail, leaving the child vulnerable to injury or even death.
If parents/guardians can immediately replace the car seat or have someone meet parents/guardians with back up, would be ideal. But the day a car crash happens is far from ideal. The Give a Gift that Can Save a Life program gives parents/guardians the opportunity to have a replacement car seat readily available from either the Sheriff Offices and Highway Patrol.
“So we are collecting the forward facing, rear facing and booster seats,” said Morgan. Brand new car seat donations may be dropped off at either branch in Huntington at 196 North Main Street and also in Ferron at 30 West Main Street.
If individuals or businesses are unable to donate a new car seat but would like to be a part of the Give a Gift that Can Save a Life program may make monetary donation in two forms at any branch. “We are also doing donations of smaller amounts; gifts cards that are $5.00 to $10.00 or even cash,” stated Morgan.
