The USU-Eastern Criminal Justice Club presents an evening discussion with Al Carlisle, PhD on Military and PTSD on Friday, November 18 at 6:30 pm at the CIB Building, Room 101. This is a free event and opened to the public.
Al Carlisle, born and raised in Utah, got his BS and MS from Utah State University and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Brigham Young University. Most of his career has been as a psychologist at the Utah State Prison from which he retired as the head of the Psychology Department in 1989. He was a consultant for the Salt Lake Rape Crisis Center for several years and he has conducted workshops on serial homicide and other crime topics. He has done extensive research on serial killers and has interviewed the Hi Fi killers, Arthur Gary Bishop, Westley Allan Dodd, Keith Jesperson, Ted Bundy and many others.
If you or someone you know has combat-related PTSD, you need to read his book entitle Broken Samurai. The story is about Danny, who spent his first days of combat duty in Vietnam at Khe Sanh during the Tet Offensive. Death surrounded him daily. After losing his best friend to the enemy, he went from scared to numb, and he began seeking revenge. When Danny returned home, he couldn’t move beyond his experiences in Vietnam, and began looking for ways to recreate them, if only to feel alive one more time.
Dr. Carlisle’s books will be available at the event for $10.00 with a portion of the proceeds going to the Criminal Justice Club. For more information about Dr. Carlisle visit http://www.alcarlisle.com/
