The Carbon High Student Government would like to invite the community to join them for some holiday cheer by participating in their annual Carbon Christmas activities throughout the entire month of December.
“So every year we just basically fundraise for families in our community for the Christmas time because some people have a hard time during this season and so what we do is kind of raise money to help those families out,” said Hannah Powell, Officer In Service. “I’m in charge of overseeing all the projects that go on and making sure all the Student Government members are keeping up with what they are in charge of and I’m also just planning different events to make money throughout the month of December, so that is my part in it.”
Activities include a Carbon Christmas Opening Assembly on Wednesday at the school to let the student body know about the monthly fundraisers schedule and how they can be a part of helping needy families in the community.
A few dates that have been scheduled so far are on Saturday, December 3 there will be a Holiday Craft Fair held in the school’s gymnasium. There will also be a Carbon Christmas Celebration for the community on Thursday, December 15.
The Student Body will also be conducting the Stuff the Bus at Lins’ (Lynn’s) and Walmart. Student Body President, Colton Cave explains further, “So we go to Lins’ now and both sides of Walmart, both entrances and we have some kids from the band there and some choir kids, us as Student Government – we’re just singing traditional Christmas music and we’re just there for small donations, pocket change, anything left over from shopping, we just take donations.” Dates for Stuff the Bus will be announced later.
The Odd Job Program will be conducted again this year. There will be small groups of high school students that will go around the community to different neighborhoods and ask community members if they have any odd jobs that need to be done. Jobs can range from taking garbage out, washing dishes, walking dog or shoveling snow. A representative from Carbon Student Government will always be present with the group as they go around the neighborhoods. This is a service project and but community members are free to make a small monetary donation to Carbon Christmas. Cave finished with, “It’s such a great experience and it’s so awesome to see the kids of our school and our community willing to help and serve, it’s just awesome.”
