The Carbon Dinos returned to the swimming pool following Thanksgiving break as they played host to the Grand Red Devils at the Desert Wave Pool Tuesday evening.

The Lady Dinos used five first place finishes to accumulate 97 points as they topped Grand’s 69 point final total. The Carbon boys managed four first place finishes to score 66 points, which put them behind Grand who ended with 97.

Megan Swasey, Sadie Crompton, Veronica Ibanez and Amanda Liu helped start the meet off on a positive note for the Lady Dinos as they won the girls 200 yard medley relay. Ibanez, Swasey, Liu and Emily Jespersen closed out the female events with a win in the 400 yard free relay.

Ibanez added an individual first place performance to her resume as she won the 500 yard free with a time of 6:27.57. Swasey ended in second in the event, logging a time of 7:23.61.

Jespersen managed to hold off Grand’s Megan Pfnister in the 100 yard back stroke for a first place finish with a time of 1:24.97. Abby Layton and Taycie Davis finished third and fourth in the event for Carbon.

Crompton logged the other first place finish for the Lady Dinos in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:20.38. Carbon’s Alheli Pendleton finished third in the same event with a finishing time of 1:30.27.

Tyson Swasey, Josh McCourt, Rylan Chamberlain and Kinnon Lyman combined to give the Dinos a win in the 200 yard medley in the day’s second event. Swasey added to Carbon’s point total with a first place finish in the 200 yard IM, while McCourt topped five Grand swimmers in the 100 yard breaststroke.

The Dinos have now competed in five meets since the season began back on Nov. 4. The team will continue on Thursday as they travel to the Uintah Invitational.
