The Carbon Dinos boys basketball team finished 1-2 during a three-game road trip at the Central Warrior Challenge Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Grand Junction, Colo.
Carbon had little problem dismantling their first opponent of the three-game trek as they earned a 70-38 victory over Palisade High School. The Dinos opened an early double-digit lead, and never looked back to earn their first win of the season.
Chase Morgan led the way in the first win of the season as he scored a game-high 20 points. Jordan Vasquez helped push the offensive production with 12 points off of the bench and Derek Hillam scored 11.
The Dinos excelled defensively in the win as they held their opponent to single digits in two of the four quarters. Offensively the Dinos hit 12 three-point shots, nine of which came from Morgan and Vasquez.
Unable to carry the momentum from Thursday over to Friday, the Dinos dipped to 1-2 overall on the season in a 53-52 loss to Cortez High School. After scoring just 16 points in the first half, Carbon rallied to put 36 in the final two quarters.
Morgan once again led the team in scoring this time finishing with 15. Jamin Jensen connected on three separate occasions from beyond the arc to score 14 points, and center Kyle Quinton chipped in with 10.
Saturday the Dinos completed the weekend road trip by once again coming up on the losing side of the scoreboard in a 58-47 loss to Grand Junction. Holding the lead at the end of the first quarter, the Dinos failed to keep pace with their opponent the rest of the way.
Quinton again found success in the paint as he scored his weekend best 14 points. Morgan scored all nine of his points from the perimeter, and Jensen finished with eight.
Carbon is now 1-3 overall following the weekend road swing, and will travel for one more road contest on Tuesday before returning home on Dec. 9.
