Suzan Elaine Pilling, 67, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016 in Price just one day shy of her birthday from health complications including stomach cancer.
She was born December 4, 1948 in Dragerton, Utah to Woodrow Leon and Erma Burton Pilling.
Sue grew up at the Big Spring Ranch, situated on the east side of Carbon County where she had many fond memories. As a child she was baptized and became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Family meant everything to Sue and she was the best of friends with her parents, siblings, especially with her father. She was a graduate of East Carbon High School Class of 1967. Sue attended the College of Eastern Utah after high school, later returning and receiving her cosmetology degree from C.E.U. in 1980. In her early years, she was a legal secretary for the law office of Stan Litizzette in Helper where she was an excellent typist.
In 1982, she opened Sue’s Barber Shop in Wellington serving her patrons for 22 years. Sue was married to John Kit “Skip” Critchlow from 1968 to 2008 and they were blessed with four children: Suzanne, Connie (deceased), Jay and Jeana.
Sue was a longtime resident of Carbon County and an avid supporter of her community. She served the citizens of Wellington as a Council Member and Mayor. She resided in Hotchkiss, Colorado from 2008 to 2014, eventually returning to Carbon County. Sue was a member of Ascension St. Matthew’s Church in Price.
Survivors include her children, Suzanne Critchlow, Price, Jay (Denise) Critchlow, Spanish Fork and Jeana (Jonathan) Bergthold, Wellington; siblings, Kent Pilling, Big Springs Ranch, Bill (Annie) Pilling, Carbonville, Jeanne (Jim) Marrs, Wellington; ten grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jack Clinton; and infant daughter, Connie.
Funeral service, Saturday, December 10, 2016, 11:00 a.m., Ascension St. Matthews Church (520 Homestead Blvd) in Price where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
