Seth Gordon Peterson who is being charged with two counts of aggravated murder a 1st degree felony, one count of attempted murder a 1st degree felony, theft of a motor vehicle a 2nd degree felony and failure to stop at the command of an officer made an appearance via video on the morning of Monday, December 5 in front of Seventh District Court Judge Douglas Thomas, whom was filling in for Judge George Harmond.
Peterson shot and killed his mother, Susan James and his brother, James Peterson on November 2. The suspect lead authorities on a high-speed chase for about four miles toward the town of Hiawatha. The suspect than left on foot but was peacefully captured with no weapons on his person. It is still unknown what ensued Peterson to shoot and kill his mother and brother.
Peterson is being represented by Attorney David Allred, while attorneys for the state are Gene Strait and Sean Brian. A request for a ruling is set for January 3 2017 so that Peterson may receive a mental evaluation prior to any further rulings by the court.
The next hearing will be held on Tuesday, January 3 2017 at 9:00 am.
