The Emery Lady Spartans delivered one of their best performances of the young year as they defeated 3A heavyweight Richfield 57-32 Thursday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Sophomore Megan Jensen recorded her finest game at the varsity level, posting 23 points and 13 rebounds. Kinlee Toomer contributed with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists as the Lady Spartans outscored Richfield in each of the four quarters.

Pegged as one of the top teams in the 3A classification, Richfield struggled offensively as they Lady Spartans used multiple looks defensively. Scoring only 13 points in the opening half, the Lady Wildcats managed to notch just four points in the final period.

Emma Jones was the only member of the Richfield squad to reach double-digits as she finished with 13 points. Shandi Bastian chipped in with eight and Madisyn Daniels scored three.

Thursday’s win improves the Lady Spartans to 4-1 on the season and is there second consecutive victory following the lone loss of the year against North Summit. Richfield now shares the same record as Emery after tasting defeat for the first time this year.

Emery will now take the remainder of the week off before returning to the court on Tuesday as they travel to Duchesne. Tuesday’s game will be the first of two consecutive on the road, setting the stage for Thursday’s game against Delta.
